Story So far part III

Submitted: 2007-12-01 13:31:11

When the drunken guest singer asked if we knew "Chasing Cars" he forget to include the simple fact that he didn't. To him this was no major barrier as he was quite happy to sit perched on a bar stool between Rich and Alex and grin blearily at them both whilst they played the longest ever intro to the aforementioned song. After ten minutes of tinkling Alex started singing in manner that woke our newly acquired guest singer from the slumber he had lapsed into. He sang his own version of the lyrics which he gleaned from a combination of trying to read Alex's lips and divine inspiration. Matt and I watched the slaughter of the song from the safety of the bar. The end came like a slow, painful mercy killing. Immediately Alex and Rich downed instruments and fled to the haven of the bar, hurdling the audience who were clapping out of a sense of relief. But it was not over. The singer was relishing in his new found stardom and had found a guitar and was plucking out the same 3 notes of a chord over and over again. "You can sing anything to this" he announced gamely and proceeded to prove his point. He wailed something that he claimed to be Neil Diamond and at the end of that, Matt the host leapt across the stage and disarmed the intruder with a move Steven Segal would be proud of, informing him there was a lot to go through tonight, so before he asked he couldn't do another.

Slightly perplexed but nonetheless, accepting the situation, the singer wandered over to the bar to see how well he had done and did he get a prize. Apparently he was under the impression that he had wandered into Lancaster's own version of the X factor. To this day I have no idea what our Elegant Landlady whispered into his ear, but he fell silent and did not move for the rest of the night.

Here endeth the tale of Rich's first performance. It would not have been a System 32 story without something spontaneous happening.
